Costs of Medical School: ways to fund it

Finances. A worry for all and all the more so for med students. πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°

Medicine is a costly degree, literally as well as emotionally. It often feels like πŸ’ΈIt's the most expensive degree offered and any form of financial assistance is helpful.

1. Student allowance. A no brainer, really. If you're eligible, apply for student allowance. It helps to cover some costs and that's a definite bonus.

2. Work. The summer is almost over but while you may be tempted to just bum around and chill out with no responsibilities, a part time (or even full time) summer job will help with finances throughout the semester, even if you choose not to work - though I think you should and have talked about this in the previous post. Depending on the type of summer job, you may even get a few weeks off for Christmas and new year. Just something to keep in mind for future summers.

But for the last few weeks see if you can do some odd jobs, and start saving.

3. Scholarships. Yes the process can be long and annoying but if you do get it, it's hella worth it. Depending on the type of scholarships - some can pay for a LOT of your tuition fee and even if you get a smaller one, it'll still help with covering day-to-day or study expenses.

  1. Hey, another option is that you could do medschool and then pick up locum shifts (which I hear are quite lucrative) and then pay the "debt". I think its called a student loan?
